Helena McClintock (a.k.a) Hels – is a fun loving and enthusiastic person – who fell in love with skiing when she learnt in Glenshee, Scotland at the age of 7. Since then she has at every opportunity jumped on a pair of skis, no matter what the weather! Thanks to her dad she got a lot of opportunity to ski every weekend in Scotland when she was growing up. Her first ever ski holiday was to Morgins (in the Portes du Soleil) at the age of 11 with her big sister and her dad. She knows the area very well and having taught in the Swiss side of the Portes du Soleil for the past 6 years is the ideal person to take you exploring around the area.
Hels started her journey on the BASI pathway whilst at Business School (ESC) in Chambery (Ecole Superieure de Commerce). After attaining her first qualification as a trainee ski instructor, she was keen to continue and settled on Morzine as being a great resort to train, work and do her ski instructor exams and hasn’t looked back since. She ran the office of a Ski School in Morzine where she met Ricey in 2005, together they are a dynamic team, who share their passion for skiing and teaching. Helena takes the more organizational role and sorts out the admin part of things with Ricey being the ‘ideas’ chap.
Hels has worked through her BASI qualification and is currently one step away from being qualified to the highest possible level, she currently holds her (International Ski Instructor Association (I.S.I.A) qualification). She has just one exam still to do – the Level 4 Technical module, which she is hoping to do at the beginning of 2015 so that she can follow her dream of teaching in France and attain the I.S.T.D (International Ski Teacher Diploma). Helena currently teaches for the Ecole de Ski Suisse in Les Crosets, teaching in French, English and has been known to take the odd lesson in Dutch. Even whilst ski teaching in New Zealand, Helena was teaching in French and English and is around to help improve yourFrench if you are keen.
Outside of skiing, Helena worked back in the ‘real’ world – she worked as a Brand Manager and Product Manager for VisitScotland, working on a number of aspects in particular promoting the range of outdoor activities that Scotland boasts. She also was an event manager, planning and running large corporate events as well as renowned sporting events such as The Open Championship, The Rugby World Cup and even worked with FC Barcelona. However skiing and her dream of being a ski instructor was calling so back to the mountains and Ski Beyond was born.
Just wanted to say a big thank you for the lessons for the kids over the weekend. They really enjoyed the sessions, and out of interest they said it was a definite tie between the two of you as to who was the favourite in terms of the lessons – apparently Ricey out did you by giving the kids sweets twice!
Just wanted to email to say thank you for the ski lessons Lucy and I had last week in Les Gets. We both thoroughly enjoyed the lessons, and felt that we had progressed in our skiing. Ricey is an amazing instructor and we learnt lots without it feeling like we were being bombarded with information. –Morzine 2014
The girls absolutely loved their lesson and felt that they learned loads, so yes, really happy–Morzine 2014
